2026 BC dental fee guide update

As of February 2026, the British Columbia Dental Association (BCDA) has released its annual suggested fee guide, which serves as the benchmark for dental costs across the province. While dentists are independent and can set their own rates, these guidelines are what insurance carriers use to determine "Reasonable and Customary" (R&C) limits.

The good news? After several years of aggressive spikes, 2026 marks a return to more predictable trends. Changes for 2026 are as follows:

Category

2026 Fee Increase

Effective Date

General Practitioners (Dentists)

2.66%

February 1, 2026

Denturists

10%

January 1, 2026

This 2.66% increase for dentists is a return to "normal" pre-pandemic trends, following the sharper spikes we saw in 2023 and 2024 (which reached as high as 6%–7% due to inflation and PPE costs).

Why do fees change?

The BCDA reviews these fees annually to ensure dental practices can remain sustainable while providing high-quality care. The primary drivers for the 2026 adjustments include:

  • General Inflation: Rising costs for rent, utilities, and specialized dental supplies.

  • Staffing & Labor: Competitive wages for dental hygienists and assistants.

  • Technology Upgrades: The ongoing transition to digital records, 3D imaging, and advanced sterilization equipment.

The 2026 BCDA update is a "stability year." While costs are up, the rate of increase is manageable. If you are looking for a second opinion on your company’s benefits plan, contact us today.
